Virginia Real Estate License Requirements
New Salesperson Licensing Requirement Effective July 1, 2009, all individuals who apply for an initial Virginia Real Estate Board salesperson or broker license need to be fingerprinted. These fingerprints will be used to conduct a state and national criminal history record check. Salesperson CE 1 st Time Renewal Qualifications successfully complete 30 hrs of approved post licensing from 1 of three tracks (commercial, residential, or property management). If licensed before 7/1/2008 this must be completed within the first two year licensure term. If licensed after 7/1/2008 , this must be completed within 1 year of acquiring a salesperson’s license. One can renew or reinstate an expired salesperson’s license for up to one year after the license expires. successfully complete the 2 hour Limited Service Agency course, a one time only requirement for licenses that expire before July 1, 2009 .

Broker Licensing Qualifications high school diploma or its equivalent be at least 18 years of age have completed an application with application fee successfully complete 180 classroom hours of Board Approved Courses. Broker CE Qualifications Brokers whose licenses expire before July 1 st, 2008 , including inactive brokers wanting to apply to activate their licenses, must successfully complete 16 hours of continuing education within their two year license period.
